Producer

Bodega Norton is one of Argentina’s most acclaimed wineries, established in 1895 by English engineer Edmund James Palmer Norton.

Engineer Edmund James Palmer Norton arrives in Argentina in 1895 to help build a railway across the Andes and falls in love with the terroir of Mendoza. Making a dramatic change, he decided to found his own vineyard in Luján de Cuyo with vines imported from France.

Situated at the foot of the Andes in the Luján de Cuyo region, Bodega Norton combines traditional Argentine viticulture with innovative winemaking techniques.

In 1989, Austrian businessman Gernot Langes-Swarovski is bowled over by the beauty of Mendoza and sees the potential in developing Argentinian wines. He decides to buy Bodega Norton, the region´s only traditional winery surrounded by its own vines.

Bodega Norton has five vineyards spread over the main terroirs of the province of Mendoza, foothills of the Andes Mountains, all of them within a privileged zone known as the First Zone for the quality of its grapes.

Founded in 1932, Finca La Colonia is a beautiful estate situated in the foothills of the Andesis 110m above sea level which results in the finest conditions to produce wonderful top quality grapes and wines.

The Finca La Colonia line reflects Norton’s dedication to showcasing the unique characteristics of Mendoza’s terroir, where high-altitude vineyards and exceptional climate conditions produce wines of remarkable quality and expression. Bodega Norton is committed to sustainable farming practices, respecting the natural environment while producing wines that reflect the land’s purity and richness.

Food Pairings

This Malbec is a versatile companion for a variety of dishes. Its rich fruit profile and smooth tannins make it an ideal match for grilled meats, particularly steak or lamb chops, as well as roasted game. It also pairs beautifully with hearty dishes like beef empanadas, slow-cooked stews, blue cheese gourmet beef burger or a charcuterie board with aged cheeses. For a vegetarian option, try it with grilled portobello mushrooms or a rich vegetable lasagna. Its depth of flavour and balanced structure make it perfect for both casual meals and special occasions.

Wine Region

Luján de Cuyo, located in the heart of Mendoza, is often considered the cradle of Malbec. Nestled at the foothills of the Andes, the region benefits from high-altitude vineyards, where warm, sunny days and cool nights allow grapes to ripen slowly, enhancing their flavour concentration and maintaining natural acidity.

The well-drained, mineral-rich soils in Luján de Cuyo lend structure and complexity to the wines, making it an ideal location for producing world-class Malbec. Mendoza’s consistent climate and advanced irrigation from mountain snowmelt ensure high-quality grapes year after year, solidifying its reputation as Argentina’s premier wine-producing region.
