Producer

Lucien Crochet’s great-grandfather married into the Picard family, who had been winegrowers in Sancerre since 1765, and thus laid the foundations of Domaine Lucien Crochet. The estate now owns thirty- one hectares of vineyards planted in various parts of four communes in the Sancerre appellation, including the largest single holding of vineyard property in Bué. Hand harvesting – a rarity in Sancerre – and the use of indigenous yeasts give particularly nuanced, elegant wines.

Several vineyard sites provide grapes for this rosé, including the Côte de Bué and the Clos du Roy, where the vines are thirty-five years old. Two different soil types feature: Oxfordian limestone and Kimmeridgian marl.

The grapes were direct pressed; eight-five percent of the juice was transferred to tempterature-controlled tanks and fifteen percent to oak barrels for a twenty-day fermentation. The wine was bottled in the March following the vintage.

Food Pairings

Elegant and food-friendly, this Pinot Rosé pairs beautifully with both delicate and richly flavoured dishes. Ideal matches include:

  • Seafood & Shellfish: Poached salmon, seared scallops, or grilled langoustines.

  • Light Meats: Roast chicken with herbs, duck breast with cherry glaze, or ham hock terrine.

  • Fresh & Creamy Cheeses: Goat cheese (especially Crottin de Chavignol), Brie, or mild bloomy rind cheeses.

  • Vegetarian Fare: Niçoise salad, beetroot tartare, or grilled asparagus with lemon vinaigrette.

Its crisp minerality and gentle fruit structure make it a natural companion to spring and summer dining, or as a refined apéritif.

Wine Region

Sancerre, located in the eastern part of the Loire Valley, is famed for its Sauvignon Blanc, but it also produces outstanding rosés from Pinot Noir. The region’s Kimmeridgian limestone and flint (silex) soils lend a signature minerality and finesse to the wines. A cool continental climate ensures grapes ripen slowly, developing complex aromas while preserving their natural acidity.

This makes Sancerre Rosé a uniquely elegant expression of Pinot Noir—crisp, linear and floral, with bright red fruit notes and unmistakable minerality. It’s a style increasingly celebrated for its versatility and ability to pair beautifully with refined cuisine.
