Gerard Bertrand is synonymous with Southern France. Owner of 16 estates, including the inimitable Chateau l’Hospitalet – voted one of the World’s best wines, he is a pioneer of organic & biodynamic viticulture in quality winemaking and owns some of the most prestigious crus of the Languedoc region.
Already recognised before the reign of Louis XIV, it is in 1618 that the botanist Magnol in his book Sylve Plantarium points out the Piquepoul among the most famous vines of Languedoc. This limestone terroir is bordering the Mediterranean Sea, offers a fresh and dry white wine.
In order to minimise the risk of oxidation, the grapes of the Picpoul are picked when the temperatures are the coolest, during the night or early in the morning and brought to the cellar as quickly as possible. The bunches are immediately pressed in a pneumatic press.
